You've just splashed out on a new iPhone 16! I'm sure you're wondering if you can save some extra cash and time on a phone case if your old iPhone 15 phone case fits the iPhone 14. However, Apple has made some great changes to the latest lineup of iPhones so you'll need to get a new case anyway.
We always think it's best to get a phone case that matches your model to give it the most secure protection.
Physical Changes
The biggest change this year is the dimensions and screen sizes:
iPhone 15: 147.6 x 71.6 x 7.80 mm
iPhone 16: 147.6 x 71.62 x 7.80 mm
iPhone 15 Pro: 147.5 x 71.5 x 7.85 mm
iPhone 16 Pro: 149.6 x 71.45 x 8.25 mm
iPhone 15 Pro Max: 160.7 x 77.6 x 7.85 mm
iPhone 16 Pro Max: 163.03 x 77.58 x 8.26 mm
While the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 have the same dimensions, there have been updates to the camera and new buttons which won't align with your old phone case.
Your new iPhone 16 will also be thinner, slimmer and lighter. Apple is known for constantly trying to reduce the bulk of their iPhones so this year your phone will be even lighter. Therefore, your old iPhone case will not keep your new iPhone nice and snug and will be more prone to damage.
Capture and Action Buttons
The action button, which was only available for the iPhone 15 Pros, is now available for all models in the iPhone 16 series. These action buttons help customise and streamline shortcuts such as Apple Pay. This was not available for the iPhone 15 so there won't be a space for it if you want to reuse your old case for the iPhone 16.
All new iPhone 16 phones now have a capture button. This is a dedicated button that goes straight to your camera app to snap photos and videos. Therefore, your old iPhone 15 case won't have a hole in the case for this either.

In conclusion, it looks like you'll need a brand-new phone case if you decide to get an iPhone 16. While you may be able to use your iPhone 15 phone cases, we don't recommend it as there won't be a snug fit and there is more of a chance of damage if you drop your phone.
Luckily for you, we have a wide range of phone cases for the iPhone 16 including snap, tough, MagSafe and wallet folios.
