You've upgraded your phone and now you're looking for a new protective and stylish phone case! However, you don't want to buy a new phone case if your old one fits, right? Sadly, it's not as simple and easy as you may think.
Unfortunately, new models of the iPhone are unlikely to fit old models with changing size dimensions, thickness, camera sizes and the like. Even though they may be the same size, the positions of the buttons don't line up the same and the camera is slightly larger.
However, some newer iPhone models actually fit older models, making them more complicated and confusing. However, here at Harper & Blake, we'll make it simple and straightforward in our handy compatibility guide below.
Will my new iPhone 13 fit my old iPhone 12 case?
To put it simply, no, your old iPhone case will probably not fit your new iPhone. Even though you may think iPhones in the same series, such as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Max may seem like they would fit, they vary in size, thickness and camera size.
The iPhone 13 series and the iPhone 12 series may look similar but the camera differs and they're only slightly bigger, although only millimetres. It may be an awkward fit but the buttons also won't line up perfectly and won't give your new phone maximum protection from bumps and falls.
You may have noticed the iPhone 11 is a similar size to the iPhone XR. However, you may also have noticed the iPhone 11 is where they introduced the new larger, camera shape. While your iPhone XR case may fit, the camera will be obscured and not fully protected.
How about the iPhone SE series?
There is a lucky exception for iPhone SE users and what old cases you can use. We will describe which phone cases fit the same model down below.
- The new iPhone SE Gen 3 (2022), iPhone SE Gen 2 (2020), iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 will all fit the same case. This has been confirmed by Apple in their phone case shop.
- The iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus
- The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S
- The iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone SE (2016)
However, don't get confused about the iPhone SE series. The oldest SE model from 2016 will not be for generations 2 and 3. However, generations 2 and 3 fit the same case.
