It's happened to all of us, you accidentally spill some water on your phone, it gets wet in the rain or you drop it in your tea. We'll let you know what you can do to get rid of moisture in your phone so put away that bag of rice and read our step-by-step guide down below.
Take off your phone case and turn off your phone
To allow your phone to dry properly, the best thing to do is take off your phone case and give your phone and the case a good wipe down to remove any moisture. Then, turn off your phone and remove any chargers, headphones and your sim card.
Dry your phone screen
The best thing to do is the access the state of the damage. Check if you need to clean your phone screen and overall phone first. See how you can clean your phone screen in our step-by-step guide here. If there's moisture trapped underneath your screen protector then it's wise to remove that as well.
Don't use rice and what not to do
When you say your phone is wet, the most common answer is "to put it in some rice." While it is true that rice absorbs liquid and moisture, it can do more damage to your phone than you think. Small grains of rice can expand and get stuck in your phone's ports, cause further damage and can get lodged and stuck.
While it may be tempting to dismantle your phone and do a DIY fix, don't do this unless you are 100% sure you know what you're doing as you can lose your warranty doing this and break your phone completely.
Don't press any buttons on your phone as you can lodge and press more water into your phone, creating more issues. It's best to turn off your phone and not fiddle with it.
Dry with silica gel packs
Do you know those little bags of silica gel that you get when you order shoes, clothes and other things online? It's a drying agent that helps keep your goods dry and can absorb water. If you have any lying about or you can easily order a pack online, you can use them to help dry your phone. Pop your phone in an airtight container with a bunch of silica gel parks and leave it for up to 3 days.

Unfortunately, if that doesn't work then you'll have to take your phone to a specialist to fix it. However, you can take preventative measures such as not using your phone out in the rain, while swimming and using a sturdy tough phone case.
